E338: Sylogist Partner channel targets quality over quantity

Sylogist CEO Joel Leetzow says he plans to deepen the Sylogist Partner channel by concentrating on Partners that can deliver strong implementations, expand capacity and help customers reach value faster.

Leetzow, who became CEO in May, told PartnerTalks that Sylogist intends to grow through a more focused channel strategy built around Partners that can deliver consistently. He was appointed CEO effective May 19, bringing more than 35 years of technology leadership experience.

“The channel will get thicker and better over time,” Leetzow said. “We’re going to focus on those who really deliver with us. So quality over quantity is the way I would put it.”

Partners extend Sylogist’s reach

Sylogist develops SaaS products for government, education and nonprofit organizations. Its portfolio includes SylogistGov, SylogistMission, SylogistEd and Payroll by Sylogist, with products built around Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central and the broader Microsoft platform.

Leetzow said he believes Partners give the company reach and delivery capacity that would be difficult to reproduce internally.

“I often think of channel as expanding the size of the circle for us on the sales front, the implementation front, simply the resources needed,” he said.

The model pairs a Partner’s Microsoft expertise with Sylogist’s industry-specific software and product knowledge. Sylogist supports Partners with documentation, training and software expertise while Partners handle customer relationships and implementation work.

Leetzow said some projects require hundreds of hours of work. A capable Partner channel gives Sylogist access to project management and skilled implementation resources without building all of that capacity inside the company.

The Sylogist Partner channel also has a role in the company’s payroll ambitions. Payroll by Sylogist is embedded in Dynamics 365 Business Central and extends beyond Sylogist’s core government, education and nonprofit markets.

Leetzow described the payroll product as “channel first” and said the company wants to put it “in as many hands as we can.”

PartnerTalks recently examined the Business Central payroll opportunity created as Dynamics GP customers prepare for cloud migration. Payroll can give Partners a defined migration workstream and an additional source of implementation and support revenue.

Faster deployment becomes the differentiator

Leetzow also expects implementation itself to become a competitive battleground.

“I think the disruption in the market is going to be the ease of deployment and the ease of getting value,” he said.

This shift puts pressure on both Sylogist and its Partners to make implementations repeatable, well-supported and easier for customers to adopt.

The approach also fits the vertical specialization already built into Sylogist’s portfolio. Instead of treating every Business Central deployment as a new project, Partners can combine Microsoft expertise with software already designed around the industries’ unique accounting and operational requirements.

Leetzow’s strategy sets a higher bar for companies that want to work with Sylogist. The company is looking for Partners willing to build expertise around its products and deliver consistently.

As Leetzow put it, Sylogist wants to make the Partner relationship stronger while keeping the customer outcome at the centre.

“We’re focused with our channel on both those areas,” he said.
