E272: OpenText’s Josh Burton on Modernizing Supply Chains with Hybrid EDI and API Integration

On this episode of PartnerTalks, Rick McCutcheon welcomes Josh Burton, senior manager of pre-sales at OpenText, to discuss how companies are blending legacy and modern systems to drive digital transformation across the supply chain.

With nearly 15 years at OpenText, Burton brings deep experience in EDI (electronic data interchange) and its evolving role alongside API-based integrations in Microsoft Dynamics ecosystems. He supports OpenText’s Business Network division for the mid-market across North America, working closely with Dynamics 365 Business Central and Finance & Operations (F&O).

“(OpenText is) helping customers integrate any of that mission-critical supply chain data in and out of F&O and Business Central,” says Burton. “(We’re) bringing together things that have worked together really well in the past, like EDI (…) but also bringing in more forward innovation like APIs. We call it a ‘hybrid integration strategy.'”

OpenText acquired GXS, a major player in the EDI space, in 2014.

Burton spoke with PartnerTalks following DynamicsCon Regional Toronto, an industry conference hosted by Dynamics User Group. OpenText uses in-person events like user group meetups to expand its presence in the Partner community, Burton explains. The organization also provides education at the events. At the Toronto regional event, OpenText delivered a presentation about combining EDI and APIs into a connected strategy.

“This Dynamics community has been very welcoming,” he said. “There’s been wonderful people that we’ve met, other Partners, end users.”

Toronto’s event marked the second time Burton attended a Dynamics event himself. He doesn’t plan to stop there, though.

“I think we’ll do the one in Dublin,” he said. “The one in Denver. We have the full list, so we’re excited to attend as many as we can and continue to build relationships.”
