Business Process Catalog and Azure DevOps for Dynamics 365 delivery

The December edition of the AI Business Solutions Partner Show focuses on a topic many Microsoft Partners wrestle with during implementations: how to consistently deliver complex Dynamics 365 projects with stronger governance, clearer processes and fewer surprises.

Hosted by Rick McCutcheon, the episode features Microsoft’s Rachel Proffitt walking through the latest release of the Microsoft Business Process Catalog and its accompanying Azure DevOps template.

Featured session: Rachel Proffitt, Microsoft

Rachel Proffitt, Principal Program Manager at Microsoft, presents the latest updates to the Microsoft Business Process Catalog and the Azure DevOps project template used to structure Dynamics 365 implementations.

She explains that the best bet is to start with business processes first, then configure technology. As she notes during the session, you cannot automate a process you do not understand.

What the Business Process Catalog provides

The catalog offers a structured hierarchy that helps Partners map delivery work directly to real business operations. The December release adds:

  • two new catalog levels for system processes and test cases
  • dozens of new system processes
  • hundreds of test cases
  • expanded scenarios and descriptions
  • deeper community and Partner contributions

The catalog is designed to clarify scope early, helping teams determine what is in scope, out of scope or not applicable before build work begins.

Azure DevOps template for delivery

Proffitt also demonstrates the Azure DevOps template that pairs with the catalog.

The template organizes implementation work into clearly defined deliverables such as:

  • configurations
  • workflows
  • integrations
  • migrations
  • jobs
  • requirements

Each item can be assigned, estimated and tracked, with links back to the related business processes. That gives project managers and solution architects better visibility into dependencies, ownership and progress.

Instead of reinventing delivery structures on every project, Partners can start with a standardized foundation and extend it with their own industry expertise.

Why this matters for Partners

Successful AI and Copilot projects still depend on fundamentals:

  • understanding processes
  • defining scope clearly
  • tracking deliverables
  • aligning work to outcomes

Tools like the Business Process Catalog and Azure DevOps template provide a repeatable way to do that at scale.
